Good deal on Valvoline Racing Oil at Autozone
« on: March 18, 2011 - 09:36:49 PM »
$2 off per quart, the regular price is $4.49 so that works out to $2.49.  The flyer says the sale lasts until early April.  I grabbed a bunch of 20W50 this week, with everything skyrocketing in price, it pays to stock up!

I assume you're talking about VR-1? Just so you know (I didn't), VR-1 is now SM/SL rated. Ie, it doesn't have the quantities of zinc that it used to have. So, if that's why you were using it, you may have to look into a new oil.

I heard the old Rotella T is not the same as it used to be either. Then I heard Shell has a new version of Rotella that has a zinc package in it. I'm confused on these oils that are changing all the time. I might just get the VR-1 and run 8 oz. of Lucas break in additive. http://www.lucasoil.com/products/display_products.sd?iid=82&catid=9&loc=show

I have run VR-1 in all(3) of the oil changes on my 408. It's got roller lifters though. It's not a crucial to have high zinc as flat tappet cams.
