My wife rocks (I think)
« on: March 16, 2011 - 11:31:09 AM »
I bought a 72 Charger about a month ago to patch up, paint and sell. It's almost ready for primer now, and once it's finished the Cuda will be coming off the road and getting stripped down so I can clone it into a 71. I found a guy down here with AMD 71 quarters, tail panel, sail panel and Shaker hood with hood pin holes. I picked up a set of 71 brake lights a couple of months ago for 50 bucks, so I figure I'm pretty well on my way. I told my wife that I would need a shaker bubble and all the bits to make it work with the six pack, 71 front fenders, either repro or used, the carbs for the six pack and all the bits to connect everything up. I even told her what the real price would be, give or take a few hundred bucks here and there, and she said ok. I have a feeling that it may come back to bite me in the butt in the future, but for the time being she rocks. I may need a list of the bits needed for the six pack and shaker so I don't miss anything when I start ordering.

I'd post picks of the work I'm doing on the Charger, but I think it would have to go in the hack job section. I'm patching where I need to and bondoing where I don't need to patch. I'm spending as little as possible on the car and pricing accordingly. I'm even supplying photos of the work I'm doing so that nobody thinks they're getting new metal instead of filler.

Here are a few shots of my hackjob body work. I'm almost embarrassed to post them. In Puerto Rico I wouldn't be able to get any more money for the car when I was done if I used all replacement metal. All the brake and fuel lines are getting replaced along with brakes, bushings, shocks and anything safety related.

Front floor was rotted out, but the rest of the floors and truck were in pretty good shape. I just used flat 24 gauge and beat/bent it to fit then I went around the edge with seam sealer and topped it off with undercoat to seal it.

I just welded patches over a few holes and covered the edges with seam sealer. When I get everything cleaned up before paint I'll pretty them up a little better.

The front valance before I started working on it. After getting the paint off I had a bunch of pin holes in it. The hack job part is that I just masked the outside of the valance and coated the inside with a 1/8th coat of bondo topped off with some undercoat. Took the tape off and then started working on the outside. If whoever buys it wants to replace it with new metal it's just a few bolts, so I don't feel too bad about it.

A shot of it before I got it into the garage for deconstruction.

Hmmm.....the voice of experience...

I figure most of us that are married and have our 'Cudas and/or Challengers probably have pretty understanding wives.

At the other end of the spectrum though. Have you ever seen those ads "Getting married, must sell toys" then he lists all the cool stuff he's getting rid of? I've always figured that marriage "ain't gonna last".

:dunno:  I rather suspect maybe a cruise may be scheduled sometime later this year, or perhaps a vacation to Euroupe perhaps. :dogpile:  In the meantime she is killer cool wife for sure.
