wiring layout

I am replacing all of the harnesses in a 71 cuda.  started from scratch. I have the wiring diagrams, but they make me dizzy.  anyone have simple pictures or diagrams of engine bay/forward wiring layout and attachment.  I am mounting the battery in the trunk and need to know the route of the rest of the wiring.
p.s. purchased new camera and hope to have pics soon.  Body is pretty much done and I am now working on interior and engine bay.

for the battery in trunk I use 1 guage welding cable from the battery to the starter then run a 10 guage wire from the starter main terminal to the big terminal on the relay . then run a 4 or 1 guage negative cable up to some point on the engine or tranny

It would help me if anyone has any pics or diagrams of cuda engine bay wiring routing and attachments. I started with a shell and the usual references (service manual, "restoration" books and wiring diagrams) just do not give much help.  This site has given more usefull help than all other options combined.

I am looking to put my battery in my trunk.  Is it ok to weld my stock tray onto my trunk pan on the passenger side and use the J-hooks and battery hold-down?   Currently I am using an Optima battery, but when it dies, I want to use a stock appearing resto battery.  What way to I run the positive and negative cables?  Is it ok to run them down the drivers side with the trunk harness and speaker wires?   Where will they come out of the firewall?  Or do I have to come up with a different route :dunno:?  Is it possible to ground the battery in the trunk and just use a engine ground strap?  Or will that cause corrosion somewhere in between?  I am really not very good with electricity, and I want to minimize my future issues with this project.  My goal is to do it right the first time with out complications, and have it look good at the same time.  Am I asking too much?  Thanks in advance for any help you guys give me.    :dunno:

I would think you'd want to put the battery inside a battery box like they do on race cars.  In the event of a crash, you don't want acid spilling all over the place.  There is no firewall between the trunk and passenger compartment to stop it.  I know the looks of the factory battery are much better, but you won't be fooling anyone into thinking it's stock so may as well be safe.

As far as the routing goes I'm not sure if there is a preference.  Maybe some of the racers can chime in.  I would think the drivers side rocker where the taillight harness goes would get tight when you run such heavy gauge wire in there with them.  I would DEFINITELY cover the positive wire with good wire loom or heavy electrical tape especially where it goes through panels or rubs.  This gives you a little insulation against wear through.  You don't want your battery cable causing a dead short.  It has no fuse and usually results in a fire!
