Convertible Windshield Trim/Molding Reproductions
« on: March 16, 2011 - 05:14:46 PM »
Hey folks,

I am thinking of trying to get this project underway but I have no idea what interest is out there. I know there are limited numbers of these cars floating around so I wouldn't want to waste my time or materials taking this project on if I am the only one in need.

I have two ways of going about the forming of the pieces and I believe number one would garner the best results. I have a 100 ton press at the shop that should be able to duplicate the factory stampings without any trouble, assuming I can get my hands on a nice set to make dies from. Option two is to simply roll them individually on the English wheel and shape them up by hand.

I make no promises either way as these pieces have some complex curvatures but I am willing to give it a shot at my expense and keep everyone updated as I progress. These would be made of either steel or stainless in an identical thickness, all mounting duplicated and then plated or polished depending on the process used to produce them.

Let me know what you think and if anyone has a set lying around I could rent for a week or so (I'd happily pay postage and provide a deposit of some sort) I could get the ball rolling ASAP.

Thanks for taking the time folks!

Geoff

WOW I don't know if there is enough demand to make that worth your time??   :clueless:   I have a spare set but not in mint condition . . . .
