1973 318 3 speed 'Cuda
« on: April 01, 2011 - 07:18:15 PM »
Hi there,
I am brand new to this site.  I have owned this car for 31 years.  It was such an awesome car at one time, but it needs some work.  It is turqoise blue in color with  black stripes down the sides.  Right now it needs a new vinyl top, new carpet and all the seats redone.  The inside panals all look like they are 38 years old.  Also it needs a new headliner.  It has no rust and is in ok shape.  I have no idea where to start or if I want to put a lot of money in this car.  I have no idea how much this car is worth as is. Does anyone know or how do I look to find out?  Or how much it would cost to restore it?   I will post a picture  ASAP  Thanks! :feedback:  Yes it runs, but I have no idea what kind of shape the engine is in.

Welcome Lriley, 31 years? sounds like your in it for the long haul, I'm going on 36 with mine..  :smokin:
How much does it cost?...Just depends on how much you have to have it like new, can do yourself and of course how much the car needs.  It would be easy to pay more than the worth to hire everything done.  Interior work is actually some of the least expensive aspects from what I've seen.

Welcome to the site!   Sounds like a cool car and if I had owned the car for that long, I would be planning on selling and would probably spend what ever it took to make it nice.   Look forward to the pics!

:iagree: cost all depends on your skills,,I had mine for about 27 yrs or so and started on it about 3 to 4 yrs back i think,,its in great shape now but far from finished,,did all work myself other than machine work and tranny rebuild but i rebuilt the motor to upholstering  my own seats,,so far money wise i estimate $10 to $15k,,of course i added extras like a six pack and converted to a 4spd,,and cloned it to a 70 style as it is a 72,,so i spent more on making it what i wanted,,if i had left it stock , it proably would have cost me  $10k or less,,of course i scoured ebay and other places for deals and could repair alot of things i bought that needed work,,of course if i count man hours i would be afraid to say what the cost would have been,, :faint:

Welcome, it is great that you have had your car all that time.   People on this forum can answer just about any question that you have about restoring your car.
I would think that it should be worth $7,000  to $10,000 the way it is.  The interior (seat covers, headliner, carpet can be bought for less than $1000.  A new vinyl top is less than $200, I had an upholstery shop quote me a price of $200 to install it if I took the old one off.

Welcome Lriley and thanks for making me feel like less of a prognosticator! I've had mine for about 27-28 yrs and FINALLY realized that no one was going to fix it but ME. so here we all are. Go for it and re-live those good times. Some of the best E car hand-holders in the world around here.
