Adobe reader would not update to latest version. Half way thru update produced error codes; other update attempts the update failed and said administrator privaleges were needed to complete the update.

The problem is the Adobe download manager has problems. Download latest Adobe reader from filehippo:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_adobe_reader/Click the "Download Latest Version" on the top right. This is the redistributable version - meaning the whole thing, in its entire format.
Several readers had responded to this answer, saying it worked perfectly. So I tried it and YES it works as described.
