I dont mean to offend, but no where in the constitution is health insurance, nor even food, clothing and shelter guaranteed, but countless programs exist at all levels of government and in the private sector, charitable organizations, churches, etc. to assist those that need. Not everything should be governments job!!

 :iagree:

Here is the problem, we have completely undone Darwin's theory.  No one is allowed to fail.  Those who make terrible decisions are actually rewarded.

- You bought a house you couldn't afford, no problem, it was the evil banks fault, they tricked you.
- You loaned money to someone who couldn't afford to pay it back, no problem, you're "too big to fail"

We can't and shouldn't babysit everyone.  When do people take responsibility for their actions?  I feel like an idiot for buying a house I could afford, many of my neighbors haven't made house payments in over 3 yrs.

I am glad our leaders don't make their decisions by reading the ticker at the bottom of CNN. How about your boy Obama's hopey/ changey BS? He blasted Bush going into Iraq under a UN resolution and not taking it in front of Congress. This morning he authorized and sent $156,800,000.00 over to Libya in the form of cruise missiles. Didn't he say he was going to do something about those wars we have going on right now? See, we can pick a scab on either side!

Look, I'm no fan of Newt Gingrich, more of a fan of Ron Paul, but I am sure he said more than what was on the ticker. When we stop electing lawyers to office we will be much better off. We need engineer and business minded people running our country and not bleeding heart or ambulance chasing lawyers.

I just LOVE the way you come up in here generalizing all Republicans like you think this is some kind of damn lefty blog. This is about Mopars and while *this* is the Off-Topic section, let's pick off topic discussion points that are not inflammatory and pointless for the kind of community we have right here at CC.com.

We don't need this b-u-l-l-s-h-i-t here!

One problem...if we cut gov't programs, eventually we'll cut gov't jobs.

If you've ever met anyone who is coming back to the private sector from public (not including military) they are WORTHLESS as employees. Their expectations seem to be 7 hour days with 2 hour lunches and they are totally unable to perform.

Those will be the next line at the unemployment office...

I'd love to see this happen more in my neck of the woods! Entirely too much government around here and we can't afford it! :villagers:

I work for the government (Navy) and have for many years, but I've been on both sides of the fence working two jobs (one being in the private sector) and worked many jobs in the private sector before working for the Navy. I have found that most of my co-workers are like me in that they are hard working, dedicated and take pride in their jobs. Sure there are lazy slobs everywhere. It seems that 20% of the folks do 80% of the work and I've not found that much disparity between the private sector and public sector in that matter and I can speak from experience. I have found some of the most lazy folks working unskilled labor minimum wage type jobs. And I know that also isn't true everywhere but it just seems that some of the rudest, lazy, disrespectful folks I've run into are working fast food counters, convenience stores and DMV (that's State employees)!  :screwy: That's just my  :2cents:

What a lot of you folks don't realize is that there are thousands, (if not millions) of Americans that are uninsurable, who would love to have insurance including my wife, she fell on the job at the cushy government (teachers aide) position she had and shattered her elbow, three screws and three months of physical therapy and she is doing pretty well, but uninsurable, the reason being is that Oregon is an all or nothing state. Where most states can exclude certain areas of your body, Oregon law says all or nothing. Unfortunately she learned this the hard way as school cuts put her out of a job. She needs a colonoscopy, which we cannot afford without insurance.

The emergency room is great for just that, emergencies. But when you have no insurance you put medical treatment off because you can't afford the exorbitant price for tests and if you are able to afford them the end result i.e. cancer could bankrupt you.

(she cannot get insurance through me as I am sole proprietor of my own business)

This Obama plan is not my choice, but if something is not done about the cost and availability it is going to bleed this country dry

As for 15% being uninsured, for the most part, I am sure that is by their choice. This is a free country, or at least is supposed to be, and you shouldnt have to pay for health insurance if you dont want too. A lot of able bodied and indestructible 21 to 30+ year olds dont feel they need it, and dont purchase it. Its their choice!
As for those who just cant afford it, or are uninsurable, most hospitals cannot turn them away, so care is available. But for those who decided not to purchase insurance, and would otherwise be bankrupted by a serious issue, that was their choice too. Sorry if a medical condition has bankrupted anyone here. I dont mean to offend, but no where in the constitution is health insurance, nor even food, clothing and shelter guaranteed, but countless programs exist at all levels of government and in the private sector, charitable organizations, churches, etc. to assist those that need. Not everything should be governments job!!

Some of the 15% can't afford the insurance and some (probably a much smaller number) just refuse to buy it. I understand why people get indignant about the government forcing people to buy it and don't think the government does a very good job at running things. The problem is that those without insurance go to the emergency room when they need medical care, no matter how trivial. What you have to remember is that all of us that buy healthcare pay for those people. Most hospitals are for profit organizations. If their costs are higher because they have to treat uninsured people then all of us pay more for healthcare.

I also understand that a lot of people don't like Health Care reform because they feel it was shoved at us. I personally think Obama and the Democrats did a terrible job of explaining what they were doing. I read as much as I could and found that there are a number of aspects to the law that will be good for cost reduction without real sacrifice. So I am not for repeal (we'll never get it done at that rate) but instead think that we have to demand that our politicians throw out the lousy parts of the deal and keep the good parts.

Here's an idea: form a group composed of Democrats and Republicans (in numbers proportionate to the makeup of Congress), charge them with fixing the healthcare laws, put them in a room, cater it and don't let them leave until they come out with completed legislation!

How many of the 'uninsured' have cell phones? Wide screen TV's?  Cable TV? etc.?  When my wife and I were first married, I worked for the college I was attending and my wife was a bank teller.  We had NO extra money, we ate on $20-25 / week.  We didn't have cable the first 5 years of our marriage, we drove 10+ year old cars that I maintained to keep running, we had hand me down furniture for a long time, but you know what we did not skimp on?  Health Insurance!  We paid a large percentage of what we made to have  insurance because that's what responsible people do.  Of course, I'm not  talking about the truly poor, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions that keep them uninsured, but those people who choose to spend their money elsewhere, who choose not to work hard to get a job with health insurance, then we should let natural selection run its course.  :2cents:

:iagree: Well there you go! I am self employed. I pay for my own health care insurance and I also pay 50% of the health care insurance premiums of my 6 employees. It is alot of money, but a necessity to keep good guys working for me. One of the things that has not been mentioned in the long debate on this issue is NO ONE in the U.S. is denied health care. The problem has been with health care insurance. The constitution does not allow the government to be in the insurance business.   :2cents:

Another issue here is (pardon my ignorance if this is incorrect) I've yet to hear any mandates to the insurance companies pertaining to rates.

If the government wants to solialize health care then all medical personel are paid on an equal scale based on expertise and field of training. Also you as a patient going to the doctor or hospital pay an amount percentage based upon your family income, not a monthly/yearly premium. Or, the government pays (taxes of course) all medical personel and facilaties and you pay nothing as a patient. Of course none of this will work, so let it be as it has always been, each paying his own expenses. And the low/no income continue to get free health care as they do now through government welfare programs, taxes are already paying for these people, and SOME of them are actually deserving and rightly qualify.

I retired in Dec. of 2008 and will qualify for Medicare June 1st. this year and a modest amount will be deducted from my S.S. check, Pam has been layed off and currently still unemployed but we still have been paying for our own health care insurance. However our new carrier will NOT cover her if she would have another stroke (pre existing) and they will drop me upon my 65th. birthday because I will qualify for for medicare.  Road_Runner said it correctly, you do what is right and necessary and take care of yourself, it cost but it is the responsible thing to do. Sadly the iresponsible march the streets and demand their "rights" and the politicians only see votes when it comes to pushing through social freebies.
