1970 full raceprepped Cuda
« on: March 24, 2011 - 07:36:55 PM »
Iam new to this forum. But not new to mopars or other muscle cars. Has been my hobby for 16 years. And since 12 years i have dragracing these muscle wiithin the limits of factory castings and heads. I own a fullcaged , framerailed 1970 Cuda. 9 inch with mark williams axles, strange support , 4 link, 727 torqflite.
For more then 10 years i have ran a steel headed (906) 440 one carb no adders into 10.60 1/4 mile.
Frontend is stock with flipfront. I will try to attach a picture.
I want to step up with engine since my cylinder 4 gave up. Everything else is fine. I was thinking turbo's.
Now iam almost close to make a deal on a srt10 viper engine complete with harness ad everything even the pedals. I was thinking since everything else is build to handle the horses whynot have a good base for some turbos some day.
Thanks you for your time

Sweet!!! That's a nice ride & awesome Mopar race car. I used to race 1/4 mile when I was young, but not in the 10's. Only in street class although I managed to run mid 13's with a 'lil ole 318 1973 Barracuda. A lot of folks couldn't believe you could get a 440 to run 10's without major modifications but as you know with your car, it's quite possible. One of my friends ran a '70 Duster set up much like yours and ran consistent 10's. Sounds like your new setup will also rock! Keep us posted on it and feel free to ask questions. Lots of knowledge & experience here! So welcome to CC.com!! Great site and great Mopar friendly people. Stick around, take your shoes off and get comfy!!  :2thumbs:

Welcome Iron Fish! That's a fast Cuda, turning times that Sox and Martin would have been proud of in the day. There is a very comprehensive knowledge base here and a lot of very nice, knowing Mopar fans. Enjoy your stay and post some more photos of that bad boy! Ian

Thanks for the welcome. This 440 i was running for a long time without opening it up for 10 years running all day long on hot days on pumpgas. Nothing fancy,..yeah ok M1 intake unported and KD 850 flowed 950.
Home ported/flowed steel open chambers heads underneath the most heavy old forged pistons .030, but durable, giving me 11.3 cr. solid flat tappet MP cam and non roller rockers. Solid as the say..I loved this proven combo. I cleaned, polished and put it next to all the trofees and prices this simple motor brought me. 60 foot was mid 1.4 for a real all steel car except the flipfront which is homemade(so very heavy). I will love to change that into a niece piece flipfront.
There are lots of guys that wont believe a simple 440 build did that even not guys with 528 hemi (maybe they were sleeping). I was thinking of stroking a 400 to something like 470 and twin it.
But as i had mentioned before i was thinking really deep about this v10 into this fish. I was also planning on a frontend rebuild combining it for the fit of the SRT10. Is there somebody making a complete coilover system for cuda?. So i can drop de torsion bars and have more room in the front. Back is solid , driveline proven. Will a 727 Torqflite bolt onto a V10 (which had a 6 speed manual).? I also had another proven combo non mopar. Thats my love a 442 W30 "70, Home build 470 olds BB running 12 all steel streettrim 14 years ago. Thinking about Dx roller and adder it.
But the fish is my passion. Mat black the color. I will attach some more pics, if there's Q's, shoot.

Regards,
Rubby

I think you would be more happy stroking a B or RB than spending multi thousands and setting back a few seasons doing a v10. Lots involved there.   My all steel 72 cuda with ladder bars went a 1.29 60' 9.82 at 142 mph when I shut it down and made it an all tube chassis car. It weighed 3780 back then.  It's around 2650 with me in it now. I am getting it out this summer after a many year project.   Good luck, like your car :2thumbs:

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.
