Should car be on stands or wheels when installing 1/4 skins?
« on: March 29, 2011 - 11:11:38 AM »
Hi, I know I've seen this topic before, but I want to ask anyway before I weld. Right now I have the cuda up on four stands, two up by the K-member, and two under the rear subframe near the torque box area. Rear and leafs are out and sitting on a dolly. No rear bumper, gas tank, shocks, etc... Car is stripped...Right now existing door edge lines up perfectly with the door pillar weld surface.

If I weld it now, and set it down on wheels, will it change?

Skins or full quarters? If the floors are all in and solid and the same with the wheel wells, you should be good to go. I would have the doors in place to double check fitment and edge contour. I replaced most of the back half sheet metal with weight on the rear suspension. Here is what I did when welding:

Check, double check and triple check before welding everything up! Good luck!

Not 1/4's just skins from about 3 inches down from the top of the body. Also outer wheel wells, and trunk drop offs. Already did the trunk floor.
I think I'm ok to weld like this too. I have not touched the other side yet, and it still lines up.

Thanks, nice pictures.

 I also had 2, 71 Challengers when I was 19-21. (28 years ago), I could not afford a 71 when I was looking 4 years ago, so I got a 74 Barracuda.
Good Luck.
