Anyone tried anything to remove anodizing that actually works? I've heard guys say oven cleaner, drano and everything else but then others have said it doesn't work.

Oven cleaner is supposed to work. You have to get the heavy duty stuff though and not the EPA friendly wussy stuff. Everything I've read says to watch it very closely because it will eat through the aluminum if your not careful.
