KUDA, little update
« on: April 08, 2011 - 07:29:17 AM »
hey all!
thought it was about time i posted a few pics and stuff about how the cuda is progressing.
i have just started the rust repairs, next is strengthening, then modifications.

sandblasting in the garage. did a few full loads of sand through the blaster and worked out it would take too long to do the whole front clip. got a great price from a local blasters, so got them to do it.

ready to go to the body shop to get the front straightened out and some new steel put in.

on the autorobot. new inner fenders and left hand chassis rail. after watching them do it, man am i glad i didn't do it myself!
got a really good price for this work too. guess they knew i'd be doing it myself and wanted to save me the pain! the whole front was shunted over, and twisted. they de-stitched the cowl and patched the rust in that area too. now i've something to aim for with my repairs.

at work in our studio. this is where a bunch of miniatures for lord of the rings were built, guess i'm the only person at weta workshop that is benefiting from the lack of miniatures in the new hobbit films...

starting the rust repairs. spoiled with machines nearby, plasma-cam, roller, folder etc...  cheers weta!

ready to have the welds ground and a coat of primer.

the obligatory engine porn shot of the motor.

i will be updating my blog as i go too, so feel free to check it out from time to time!

cheers!
aaron

The pics are badass, especially the first one.  Even while being repaired, the Road Warrior atmosphere is there.
Glad to see the repairs are being done correctly.  Hopefully the rebuild won’t take all winter (Aussie winter)

Nice looking patch work. You can tell a lot of time went into fitting them right.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

:iagree:  It's like the making of a monster! Even in the second pic the car looks mean, the concrete walls do something for the car!  :2thumbs:

cheers guys!
at this stage will, i am planning on putting in a handbrake, relocating the battery in the trunk, filling all the holes in the firewall (no heater etc), smoothing and de-looming the engine bay (thinking of running all the electrical stuff on the inner firewall where the heater box would normally be), and reworking the rear wheel houses to clear fatter tires.  fabricating custom shock tower braces, rear spoiler, and maybe reworking the passenger seat rails so my 6.5'+ friend can stretch his legs out! he's tired of little japanese cars here in NZ.

cheers!
