door jamb switches

You can see by the picture that the distance from the hex portion of the switch, to the part that contacts the door is different between the two switches.  Is this right?  I don't want to mess up the door if one is too long.  I found three switches...two that have the blade ends and one with the barrel end.  According to my dash harness, the ones pictured are correct.  I'm just wondering about the different lengths.  Thanks

I think I'm right on this..the inner shaft is self adjusting & start out like the upper one and will slide in if needed.
 Both of my jamb switches appear more like the upper one from the outside.

OK, that sounds logical.  I wondered because both switches with the blade ends are exactly the same.  The spot on the door that makes contact with the switches must vary quite a bit.

If it helps, my '73 has the blade connections rather than the barrel.

My 72 has blade switches and they look like the one in the top picture with the brass barrel exposed.

You have the blade style on both sides?  The blade style is only on my drivers side.  Do these cars have a chime for when the door is open and the key is still in the ignition?  Maybe that's why the switches are different per side?

I double checked my origonal harness and the new one.  They only have the barrel connector on the passengers side.  Would cars with Rallye gauges have used a different setup then cars with the standard dash?

I never thought they would be different. I recently worked on the driver's kick panel area and remembered that the connections were the blade type. The pass side could be barrel. I'll look later today and let you know.

You were right Burdar! Barrel on the pass. side. Looked at the schematic, the pass side does just the dome light, the driver's side does the light and 'key in' buzzer.
