Hood Adjustment - Urgent Help Needed
« on: April 14, 2011 - 11:37:43 AM »
I'm in the process of changing over a set of new hood hinges for old units that let the back of the hood raise.  After installing the new hinges - the same problem exists.  Am I blind here or is there some sort of adjustment that can be done to hinge to make the hood stay down in the rear?  Please help.  The hood is a bulge hood.  Are there different hinges from bulge to flat hoods?

Thanks -

That's an adjustment problem.  Check out this link for the proper adjustment procedure.

Same hinge for both. A couple of questions. Does the female captured nut for the side closet to the front of the car slide back and forth? The firewall side is just where you land the bolts in the vertical channels of the hinge mount. That combination is where you get all of your adjustment.

You mentioned that you have new hood hinges. Are they brand new or just different? If they are just a different set, they may have play in one or both just like the old set. Try twisting the hinge with your hands holding the brace for the hood and the mount for the inner fender and see if there is play in it. If there's no play there, those should be good to go.

Just as a note, when I got my Challenger, the driver's side wound not pull down to meet the fender. Turns out some ding dong replaced the hinge with a Charger hinge and it wouldn't pull down far enough. After I figured that one out, replaced the hinge and it pulled down just fine.

Ya' my hinges are toast.  Play at the rivets.  As asked... Are these brand new hinges? Or just different used ones?  Check the shims on the sides and make sure the rubber bumpers aren't folded or pinching. Maybe try slotting the holes on the hinges more.   I loosed the back bolt and push up on the front of the hood. It causes a cantilever and forces the back all the way down.   There are year specific hinges. but just a slight variance. I think all e body hinges are interchangeable. But I'm no expert.  R/T
