Newbie Intro from Tom
« on: April 19, 2011 - 10:44:44 PM »
Hey Fellow Moparians,

I’ve been a member for a short time but never introduced myself. So here I go…

Caution: there will be stoning and such from my actions…. :aarg:
I’m fairly new to this forum and have now called it home. Previous forum homes are Halloween and Christmas. While I am still active in those two fields, I have resurrected an old hobby.
Back in 1980, I had a chance to purchase a 1970 Cuda with a 440. It was blue with chrome headers and all the goodies a 16 year old wanted and all for $1000. After convincing my mom, I was on my way to purchase the Cuda only to find out he sold it to a friend of his AFTER he agreed to sell it to me. A short time later I found another Cuda (around a 73 model) with side pipes. Looked pretty cool and had a brighter blue paint job. Another nice car for a 16 year old but an electrical fire under the dash left that fish smellin pretty bad. I was done for a while.
Then in 1998, I purchased a 1970 Cuda convertible with a 340-6. Non-matching but none the less a convertible and fun to drive.
(here is where the village folks start throwing stones at me….) :bricks1:
I sold it for a business prospect in 2005 to expand what I currently had (ouch, ouch, ouch. It’s not the stones being thrown that hurts, it’s my foot kicking myself in the rear-end)
The business was a dark ride (ride-thru haunted house). So I sold a very cool ride and bought (to expand) a different cool ride. It was named the Dungeon Haunted Ride in 3D. I scared the crap out of thousands and loved every minute of it. :aarg:
Then things changed…..
In the past year (2010), my mom had two massive heart attacks. This past fall she developed complications from congestive heart failure. I knew I needed to spend more time with my mom and dad so I put the Dungeon up on the block for sale.
Before I go on, I was very lucky to have Thanksgiving and Christmas 2010 with my mom.
In January of 2011, she passed away. Now my attention is on my dad more than ever.
Another month later, I was able to sell the ride while storing all scene/prop stuff in storage. That stuff will go later.
My mind was bouncing in all directions thinking this was the worst year of my life and it’s only a couple months into it. I reflected on what I promised myself years ago and went with it saying to myself, you only have one life to live, so live life while you can (just like my mom said)….
Now, to go back to the future a bit, I had an interview for the Haunted Attraction magazine during my prime in the haunt industry and the very last paragraph I quoted, “One of these days, if I ever have to get rid of The Dungeon, I’m going to turn around and get me another Cuda”.
Well, one ride (the dark ride) is gone and I have no choice but to get another ride, a Cuda.
So now I am on a journey to get that Cuda and even if I can only afford a Cuda needing work, I will make it my Cuda and a Cuda I can drive saying “she is mine and yes, she is fun to drive”.
I look forward to future posts with you all. :worshippy

  Welcome, Tom!

Hope you find a car of your liking!

Hmmmm....haunted stuff, ghouls, Cudas...have you seen the Phantasm movies from the 80's?  Probably have, a good combo of scary and Cuda.  I like horror/scary stuff too.  Sorry to hear of your mom's passing.  :(

Are you from Oklahoma?  Any pics of your old Cudas?

If from OK...

http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/cto/2308916686.html  A little pricey at $11k, Maybe a $4-$5k car, IMO...

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Thanks Guys,

Phil, thanks for supplying the ads from craigslist.

Yes, I am from Oklahoma City. I saw all the Phantasm movies which is probably where I got my inspiration for cudas. The first movie was the best of the series IMO.

I do have pics of my old cuda and will try to locate them and post em when I get a chance.

My eyes are set on a 1971 cuda so we will see....

Thanks again everyone.
