Plastic media is the safest without warping. However if you know what you're doing you can go with a more aggresive media that cuts faster. I did my underside with aluminum oxide.

BTW, chuck. Please turn off your caps lock. It's impolite to post on forums in caps.

Using sand is not recommended if you DIY. You need a sealed mask with an external air system hooked to the mask. When sand is blasted, it creates Silica dust. If you breathe in silica dust, you can get Silicosis. 3M dust masks will not prevent breathing it. My first blasting, I used sand and my chest hurt for 2 days. Black magic is coal dust. Another bad one needing you should have special mask for.

Read this post. I recommend stripping the outside by hand unless your car is very rusty.

I had my cuda done with walnut shells. Absolutely the best way to go as there is no caustic residue left as with soda. There is done damage or warping  done as with sand .

Any pics of your project chuck?
Is it rusty on the outside?

If it's not, I still recommend stripping the outside by hand.

It takes longer but media hidden everywhere is a real PITA to get out of the car afterwards. The heavier the media is per lb the harder it is to get out.

More than one resto shop I have spoken with agrees with me on this. The car has gotta be pretty rusty throughout to warrant a complete blasting inside and out. Then Picklex it after.

Dupont Starblast is what we use at our shop. It works really well.

The one area most of all to avoid blasting is inside the trunk with the quarters still on.
With them off, you can still do a decent clean out. I had alot of media get into the frame rails even with plugs in the holes. After doing the underside, blow out the inner frame rails as best you can.

Wow nice project Chuck. I would say by the looks of it you could sand it on the outside.

When I did my interior, I sanded it as best I could then sprayed Rust Bullet. Trunk floors were replaced.

I'm not trying to have my car survive for another 200 years. It wasn't very rusty like yours either.
