interior roof trim
« on: April 27, 2011 - 04:42:44 PM »
I just starting to look at putting my headliner in and see i need some trim from the sealing to the door edges.  I have new corner covers but cannot find any trim to continue on from there.
I do have some from a donor car but are the wrong color. They have to be black.
Has anyone ever seen new ones or tried painting them.

There are metal trim pieces around the rear window, along the top of the windshield and between the headliner and side glass.  They are molded with the texture in the metal.  You can scuff up the origonal paint or strip it off.  If the existing paint is peeling off or some of the trim is rusty, then I would consider blasting it clean before repainting.

I just pulled my trim off the shelf to repaint it.  I'm going to use SEM trim black...the same thing I used for my dash frame.  I thought I read somewhere that 1970 used a glossier shade of black for the trim.  You may want to look into that if you are going for a correct restoration.

The only other trim on the roof is the plastic A-pillar trim.

Thanks for the reply. I did not know they were metal , they looked plastic. I will blast them and repaint them.
My car came as a bare shell and im trying to figure how to put it back in one piece.
Thanks again
