Slider vs Pin type Caliper for 11 3/4 brake upgrade?
« on: May 29, 2011 - 08:19:23 PM »
Is there a disadvantage  using the slider type caliper vs the pin type for the 11 3/4 brake update. I ran into a 1974 Newport at the local junkyard and was wondering if I can use those slider caliper brackets . :clueless:
Thanks

The Newport( C-Body) caliper brackets won't bolt to an E-Body spindle, different hole spacing. I think there is more pad selection with the pin style ( firm feel)  http://www.firmfeel.com/carbonme_e.htm

While I was doing my research on upgrading to 11 3/4" brakes, almost everyome says to use the pin style calipers.

here is a good read on upgrading you brakes. http://www.moparaction.com/tech/archive/disc-main.html

Thanks Brad70
The image you  have drawn cleared my questions. I went on another mission today and found a 1978 Cordoba with the pin type bracket with a bonus of brand new rotors ( well slightly used). Now I can reused  my brand new calipers I currently have mounted on my car.
2nd ? Do you recommend upgrading to the tubular arms from Firm feel at this point... is it a upgrade that I really need for ride improvement.?

Thanks 67vertman. I have been reading multiple Posts and seemed to have gotten confused on donors but seem like I am on the right road again.

Thanks

Good score on the Doba parts!  :2thumbs: I don't know about the firm feel arms, I have the Hotchkis arms, they don't improve the ride per say , they just allow you to get more caster . If that is your only goal I'd suggest trying the moog offset control arm bushings first?
To improve the ride I'd suggest bigger sway bars and quality performance shocks first?
