another pulley question!
« on: May 01, 2011 - 11:25:31 AM »

I have a question about the allowable distance between pulleys.  The distance between my crank pulley and the water pump pulley is only about 1/16".  Its hard to tell if I even have the correct pulleys(because I may have gotten them from the junk yard ).  I really hate to buy a
new"set" of pulleys when I already have these, but may have to anyway.  Is 1/16" excessively close?   What do you guys think?

70 RAG TOP,I had a 71 Demon 340 and I put a set of pulleys on the 340 and for some reason they only had a about 1/8" clearance.I rapped that motor to over 7500 RPM at the strip several times and never had a problem. As long as the alignment is on the money (Based on my experience) you should not have any trouble.Brusco PS If the alignment is the leaset little bit off you will run a higher risk of throwing the belt off at high RPM's because they are so close.

70 RAG TOP,FYI: The only drawback to having a larger crank pulley is that it sucks more HP than a stock one and way more than a set of reduced ratio pulleys.Brusco
