1973 Challenger Side Glass
« on: May 04, 2011 - 10:22:00 AM »
Hello everyone, I joined here because my dad owns a 73 Challenger and due to his limited resources, he is always in need of my help in doing minor repairs, but I am at a loss on what has always been an easy repair on new car models.  I am trying to replace all the hardware and rollers on the side glass so the window will roll up and down.  I bought the service manual CD, but the Challenger shows no rollers but instead showed guides and when I took apart the glass, it had worn out rollers.  Both Year One and Jims Auto Parts show rollers for the kit for the 73 Challenger.  Anyone who has done this job I would appreciate some insight.

I assume the car had those green plastic slides instead of the orange rollers right.  My 73 has those too.  I'm pretty sure that R/T Specialties has the green ones.  You might check with Dave at Rosevillemoparts.com and see if he has them.  He is a sponsor here.

EDIT:

I re read your post and think your saying that you DO have those orange rollers.  For some reason, they list the rollers for 73 but not all of them came that way.  My car has the green slides.  R/T Specialties has both styles.  Again, you can see if Dave at Roseville has those pieces too.

Do not buy anything from Jims.  I've never heard one good thing about that place.

Mine has the rollers currently. I ordered both repair kits from jimsautoparts.com but on the roller kit they left out a few things.  The manual I have for that year shows the guides and not the rollers.  I guess I could go either way with it just wondering what works best now.  The manual has terrible drawing and my mind works better seeing a picture, I guess I am not good at following directions.  If you have a pic of the window assembled and out of the door that would be great.

I don't have the side glass at my house right now.  I need to find 2 of the stamped steel nuts that hold the sliders to the glass.  Two of them were missing when I took the car apart.  Once I have those, I can install my side glass.

When I go to install it, I can take some pictures but I don't know exactly when that is going to be.

-1 on Jims. I have to agree with you. I ordered a body panel from them, it was supposed to be Official Mopar Restoration Part. When it came, it was poorly stamped chinese stuff, needing stuff done to it before you could paint it. No mfgr's packaging, just a cheap generic part at the price of the good stuff.
