Advancing Cam Question

So, I am seriously considering advancing the cam in my 360 (looking for more bottom end).

I am running a Edelbrock timing set that allows for 3 degrees of adjustment, there are different keyways on the crank sprocket.

Because the engine was running and timed properly, can I just change the crank sproket to the advance position and put the chain back on, or should I go through the process of timing the engine.

I have not dissasembled the engine, only pulled of the timing cover.

look really close at the crank sprocket for a symbol at the key way you are going to be using. there usually is a dot for straight up and a triangle for advance or retard and a square for one way or the other i cant remember which way does what. anyways when you use one of those symbols for the advance or retard there is a corresponding symbol you use to line up with the dot on the cam gear. if you fail to line up the proper symbol you will bend the valves seen this one time with a friends pretty much stock 318. hope i didn't confuse you a pic would be worth a thousand words here but i don't have one.

If you have a decent amount of cylinder pressure already and aren't checking it all with a degree wheel, this is a potentially risky situation that could put you in to detonation as the accuracy of timing sets can vary considerably. However, if your cylinder pressure isn't too hot to begin with, it might help build some additional squeeze.

I'd check the manufacturer isntructions to see what they recommend for setting timing. Edlebrock has most of their instruction sets and manuals online.
