« on: May 18, 2011 - 06:47:53 PM »
my 73 barracuda is a small block engine car , i'm going back with a big block 383 engine ,  my question is do i need to change the torsion bars or any other parts in the front suspension for handling with a big block ? i was told maybe the torsion bar but did not know the size

In short, yes, if it has the original bars in it...

Otherwise, it will be a real pig and will get worse if you put radial tires on it.

I think most would suggest at least the 0.96 Mopar bars and many of us that want better handling have gone to the 1.03" bars, or larger.  the 1.03" are popular because PST has them close to $200.

It might not be a bad idea to put heavier springs in the back with a big block either.

, yes they are original
I drove my car with the 440 and original 318 bars and it was interesting cornering to say the least. Need a firm grip on the steering wheel! Definitely go at least .96".
