Seat belts
« on: May 04, 2011 - 03:48:59 PM »
Did E bodies ever come with seatbelts that are like that of modern cars? in other words, could you grab the belt over your shoulder and click it and you would have the lap and shoulder belt all at once? I think the 70 and 71 ebodies had 2 separate belts, one for the lap and one for the shoulder that you had to adjust. I am looking for the retractible that are in modern cars.

73 and I believe 74 had the lap and shoulder belts separate, but the shoulder belt would latch onto the male part of the lap belt, so they would stay linked together after you unbuckled.

as far as i know all ebodys used two separate belts,,the shoulder belt mounted above on hooks,, that you took off and put into the lower belt and snapped into the chrome ends

My 74 has one piece retractible sholder belts in the front.

Al indications are that they are stock.

You can buy, modern style 3 point belts from one of the variosu manufacturers (i suggest Wesco) and they will bolt into the stock mounting locations.  I can get you measurements of the drop on my belts if needed.

Let me know if you want some pics.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but i didnt want to start a new one that was similar. I need some help with seat belts also. I am pretty sure i am missing some. Does anyone have pictures of locations and which one goes where for a 73 challenger.  I think i have all the front stuff, but not sure how the drop down shoulder attaches to the waist, and which side the retractor goes on.     :clueless:

One of the guys here that we met at the Nationals had seat belts, in his 70 Challenger, from XV Motorsports. The shoulder section had a piece that extended out and held the belt down closer to shoulder height. It was a niice conversion that got rid of the hassel of a 2nd seat belt.

When I bought my Challenger it came with the one piece lap/shoulder belts . I know they were not correct for a 1970 but I assumed they were off a 74 E-Body?  Mine also came with the bigger shaft steering box and the bigger bearing spindles, so I am guessing someone along the way robbed parts off a 74 E-body then put them on mine? :dunno:

Or you have a '74 and somebody converted it to a 70?

I don't think so? Vin matches cowl and rad support. Doesn't look like rear tail panel or any other panels have been replaced? 70 dash too.

I put aftermarket one-piece in mine. Used the shoulder attachment point for the shoulder extension and 12" clasps on the floor. Aircraft style latches. www.seatbeltpros.com, I think.

Ditto my 74 Challenger.

I did add a third lap belt in the back though. There was a point in time when I managed to get three cars seats across the back seat of that car. It  was tight, to say the least.
