How to Advice/Instructions, for Trunk Mount Battery
« on: May 16, 2011 - 09:37:03 AM »
I'm considering putting my battery in the trunk, I have seen kits, but which is the best? what advice, pros/cons of doing this? I got this idea from this site, and I just purchased a blank mopar dummy battery, could be a salesman sample. So thinking put the mopar blank in place of the real battery, and mount the real battery in the trunk. Any advice, instructions, pictures that could be helpful - Thanks in Advance

I used to do this years ago and had it in my race car.  Batteries used to leak acid and get all over your trunk stuff. Make sure you use a Red Top Optima battery and use a battery box. Get a battery relocation kit and use the heavy battery cables that come with it and run it right to the starter post, then tap off of the relay for your accessories.

I would leave it up in front if I were you. If yo cruise around a lot, leave the trunk for your cooler, chairs and tools.

I found at a swap meet, it was just there,  and when I looked at it it was light. I will keep my eye open for you too.
I took some pics you asked for, try to get them posted soon.

Do you race the car at NHRA tracks?  If so that adds a lot of complexity.  If you still want to move the battery I would recommend an Optima type battery that won't leak or outgas.  Be aware that it's kind of an expensive swap to do just for looks (battery cables, etc.).

I'm a daily driver, so from the couple responses, guess I will keep the battery up front

I use welding cable , I run the power to the starter terminal , & a ground up to the tranny for max efficiency . You will need to add a 10 ga wire from the positive on the starter to the start realy on the inner fender to make this work
