rear wheel bearings oil?
« on: December 22, 2004 - 05:40:06 PM »
I am putting a 3:91 sure grip in the 74 cuda.
I am debating if I should change the inner axle seals?
Do the wheel bearing receive oil from the 3rd member? Or are these seals susposed to keep it all out?
When I dissasembled, one wheel bearing was very noisy and both had oil in them.
I put new wheel bearing in and packed with grease, but should I change the inner seal or is oil susposed to get to the bearings? (a local shop told me it is)
thanks

they do not oil from the diff the only lubrication is the grease packed into the brgs so if they is oil in the oil brgs the seals have failed a& need to be replaced

No, the seal keeps the 3rd member oil out of the axle bearings. Grease is for the axle bearings, oil is for the pumkin.
