o-ring style water neck
« on: May 28, 2011 - 04:56:07 AM »
Anyone use this style water neck vs. std gasket style?
A local shop makes their own and I'm curious if it performs better.
Mine still leaks...

Do you have a chrome after market water neck or the stock neck? I have yet to find any gasket that will work with those chrome types.   :stomp:

I bought 1 for my 440 that was a cheapy with the built in o-ring, and it never leaked.

The bummer was it wouldn't then hold the thermo, but if they are making them maybe they can make it so it fits.

The car had a cheapy chrome one and I've fought it constantly.  The new one is billet and was milled at Hawaii Racing here in Simi Valley.  It didn't fit my thermostat (not the standard cheapy t-stat) so they milled it down to fit.  The rest they make they said would handle all t-stats.

I've heard that people also recommend the billet water neck that Mancini Racing has.  Not sure if that is an o-ring unit but people here say they work great.

I've only had one day with this one... will check back in if it fails.

I fixed my chrome TStat housing by sealing with "The Right Stuff" sealer. Mentioned this sealer before. It's basically like this - you seal and re-seal equipment with other sealers many many times. Then you get sick of it and go get some "the Right Stuff" for a horrible price and it works. I paid $24 for a half tube that fits in the caulking gun. But it works!

They suck IMO,    I fought mine for years.   It would bow over time and I would sand it flat only to have it bow again.   I got a nice billet flat style from napa for seven bux.  Not a drop or bow in two years. ;)
