Boy, did I almost make a BIG mistake...

trading my Challenger for a Volaré.

A little background...

I've been getting REALLY frustrated with the Challenger this year.  Besides having it stored away from me it has just been gnawing at me that I can't leave the car outside (I live in a condo, so no garage).

So my thoughts turned to cars I've owned in the past (I've had plenty) and my fondest memories were of my first two cars, an 80 Volare coupe, and a 77 4spd Road Runner.  As such I figured I could trade the Challenger for a nice Volare, and even end up with some cash in the deal to go towards a house.  I pretty much convinced myself that it was a GREAT idea.  My girl even said that I shouldn't.  Either keep the Challenger or not.  Nothing in between.

Boy was she right.

So I've owned the Volare for two weeks.  Traded with a friend (who also has been storing the Challenger for the past school year) and registered it.  Took it out for the first time yesterday.  No, you can't go home again.  The Volare was a \6 4spd, and while it was fun to row my own, it wasn't the same.

The driving experience stunk.  The dash was fine, but the E body gauge cluster is better thought out and laid out.  (although I do think the 71-79 B-body cluster is the best, I'll probably end up getting my 79 300 back because that's better than an F-body I found out).

Shifter was to close to the seat and awkard placed.  Steering wheel too close.

I called him up at the end of the day.  I said thanks but no thanks.  Fantasy definitely is better than reality.

Gonna move the Challenger hopefully next weekend.

Glad that I learned something though.  Be happy to have it at Carlisle in the time-bandits class (putting steelie 15s and dog dishes on it).   Maybe I can coerce my brother to putting the duals on the 318-2bbl too...

Glad to hear you didn't make that trade. I almost gave up on the Challengers many times. I know now that no way in he!! will I ever give up on them. Even if it means eating mac and cheese for dinners. I think in a very short time you would have been missing your e-body.

A slant-six Volare?? That must have threw you in the back seat when you got on.

Listen to the girl friend here. It seems even she knows better.   :grinyes:

In my defense it was a VERY solid Volaré body.  Also, an F is lighter than an E.  But it sure ain't the same.

The last straw that I didn't mention was I felt kinda shafted in the deal.  My friend presented the car in much better condition than it actually was.  If I could've been able to drive it to Carlisle as is (just like I can the Challenger) then the cash portion would've been fair.  But it couldn't, so it wasn't...

The Challenger basically needs a re-body the more I examine it.  My sister-in-law's father also does body work so I'll be talking to him later this month.

Yes, bodywork was a big issue.  But now its not.  I'm telling my dad that I'm confiscating his garage again for the next 3 months.

Yes, I'm back to my senses.  That's what car withdrawal can do to you folks!

I know what you mean about misrepresenting a car lol. I just picked up a 72 Camaro (to go with the 72 Cuda lol) for a daily driver and something I can tinker with occasionally while I am getting the Cuda restored. And the guy I got it from was a complete liar about a bunch of the stuff on there. I have already called him up hollering about things he misrepresented. People need to work on their honesty sometimes lol.
Cuda is gone :(

Did I mention the other party is my friend?

Yes, I'm looking into storage options for next school year.

And yes, once I get the space (after I buy a house) I'm buying back my 300 from him (I bought it from him originally, too)
