trading my Challenger for a Volaré.
A little background...
I've been getting REALLY frustrated with the Challenger this year. Besides having it stored away from me it has just been gnawing at me that I can't leave the car outside (I live in a condo, so no garage).
So my thoughts turned to cars I've owned in the past (I've had plenty) and my fondest memories were of my first two cars, an 80 Volare coupe, and a 77 4spd Road Runner. As such I figured I could trade the Challenger for a nice Volare, and even end up with some cash in the deal to go towards a house. I pretty much convinced myself that it was a GREAT idea. My girl even said that I shouldn't. Either keep the Challenger or not. Nothing in between.
Boy was she right.
So I've owned the Volare for two weeks. Traded with a friend (who also has been storing the Challenger for the past school year) and registered it. Took it out for the first time yesterday. No, you can't go home again. The Volare was a \6 4spd, and while it was fun to row my own, it wasn't the same.
The driving experience stunk. The dash was fine, but the E body gauge cluster is better thought out and laid out. (although I do think the 71-79 B-body cluster is the best, I'll probably end up getting my 79 300 back because that's better than an F-body I found out).
Shifter was to close to the seat and awkard placed. Steering wheel too close.
I called him up at the end of the day. I said thanks but no thanks. Fantasy definitely is better than reality.
Gonna move the Challenger hopefully next weekend.
Glad that I learned something though. Be happy to have it at Carlisle in the time-bandits class (putting steelie 15s and dog dishes on it). Maybe I can coerce my brother to putting the duals on the 318-2bbl too...
