Is it easier to cut out the old floor before drilling out the spotwelds?

definitelly yes.  I replaced the full trunk pan  and I had to cut it in pieces before removing the spot welds and extract the panels from the car.

I just did mine and it was easy to do after cutting the majority of the floor out. I used a sawzall and cut big pieces out. Make sure when you cut though that you watch for the frame, floor braces and seat mounts underneath the pan. I found out the hard way that there are braces that run the length of the rockers and I cut into one of them. Not to big of a deal to fix, but I only cut into it. I would think it would be alot worse to cut into the frame....
