Correct Battery Cables?
« on: June 13, 2011 - 02:50:14 PM »
I just installed a new "positive" battery cable on my 71 Cuda 340 that I got from Year One and it was the exact same as my old one, just connected it to the starter / onto fender wall like the old one and that's all good as it fit perfect.
My question is this!!
I was going to order a new "negative" battery cable for the car but but have a question??  The black cable on on my car now for the "negative" is very simple at it just goes from the battery post and is grounded into the side of the block via just one cable with a bolt into the block?? The negative ones I'm looking at for replacements listed for my car /engine seem to have a couple of cables making uo the negative cable??? Just wondering why the one I have now is just the single cable to the block (probably not the correct one I'm sure) and where the other cable for the negative on the new one attaches to??? I'm someone has a pic of the proper negative cable showing it attached would be of great help!!
As Always Thanks!!!
"Tim"

The original ones had two wires.  The larger one connected to the drivers side head.  The smaller wire was connected to the radiator support right infront of the battery.  If you look, you'll probably see that the headlight harness is also grounded to the rad support.  The headlight harness and the negative battery cable used the same grounding location.

Thanks. The one I have now just connects to the drivers side head and no second wire on it.

This is probably a generic replacement cable. You want to have the body of the car grounded or all kind of strange electrical things will happen.

Just realized that my wire from negative to the rad support is cut off.  I have been having grounding issues and one day it just hit me out of the blue.
