Rock Guards
« on: June 27, 2011 - 02:43:53 PM »
Does any one have a pic of where the rock guards are mounted under the front end of a 72 chally 340? My body guy could only find where 1 went. Thanks,

Are you talking about the plastic shields that mount to the frame rail, close to the torsion bar? Triangular shape?

Correct. They are 2 plastic pieces that are at about 90 degrees and mount to the frame rail. They prevent rocks and debris from bouncing up into the engine.

THey are called K frame splash sheilds.  THey mount right infront of the K member on the frame rail.  Are you reusing your origonal ones or did you buy the repops?  I could only find one of my original ones.  I know there are supposed to be two but didn't know if the later years only came with one for some reason.

My car is out at the body shop getting touched up for a July 4th car show, so I can't get any pics right now. Those are a few of the last few pieces that I installed. I had to line up the holes already in the frame rail and it took a little while to figure them out.  If I remember correctly, they both were up there around the front struts and kind of wrapped around them. I'll get a picture when I get my car back Friday, if someone else doesn't post pictures first.

This is the only pic I have that shows it.  I don't know if this will help you or not.  By the looks of the picture I think they mount in between the k-member ears and not infront of it.

I have one on my spare frame rail in the basement.  Maybe these will help for the Passenger side? The driver's side is similar.

Kind of wraps the STRUT ROD. That's probably why it is hard to figure out.

There was also another one behind the k-frame when the frame rail goes from angled to horizontal.
