The right part....or a part that will work...
« on: June 11, 2011 - 09:50:49 PM »
So which one do you go with....

I have learned over the last couple of years, from fixing other's, and my younger mistakes, that it usually pays to go with the right part, even if it costs a bit more or takes more time to find/get.

Here is my current example, small block heater hose nipples for an intake swap.

I can pick up some brass NPT fittings that will work or I can order the right parts from Mancini, and wait for them to come through the post to the Great White North. The right part only costs a little bit more.

Hmmmm.....I am not so sure I want to wait and follow my own advice.

What to do what to do.

If my local true value or auto parts store don't have it, then I'll order it

In this case I would go with the brass fittings.

I try to keep my engine compartment looking as factory-chrysler as possible, so my general rule of thumb is that if it's going to be plainly visible, I use a "correct" part.

That said, on something like a hose nipple, as long as it would be covered by the hose and hidden, I'd consider a shortcut. :-)
