HID headlight housings

OK so for about $60 more than I could buy the cheapest 4-plastic housings and 4-good halogen bulbs I could get two sets of HELLAs with bulbs & lenses  made from glass I assume.

Hella and Cibie make some very good lights...the ones ECE rated are not legal in the states altho many have run them...to be strictly legal, they should be DOT approved.  From what I have seen, the ECE lights throw a better pattern (but that is subjective because you can pick good and bad spots from both)

I checked for DOT approval and found this statement

Wade, the Hella USA site has DOT approved versions.    The non USA Hella site has the ECD (European) approved lights...Many run them here.  Some claim the E code lights tend to get into the car ahead of you in the right lane when you are in the center lane...

Reading Daniel Stern, he seems to believe that the quality lights like Hella are good in either version and does not have a problem with the E code lights.  Stroker has them, and I have used them in the past and liked them.  They were far better than our lights a few years ago altho our lights are much improved today.   I consider either better than the cheap HID conversions with the sorry reflectors that are not designed for such.

Has anyone installed the 7" Hellas on their 70 Cuda? Any fitment issues?

My housings are some kind of fiber/epoxy resin with a glass front.    BTW, you have to run relays with H4 bulbs or the circuit breaker in the headlamp switch toggles off and on and you lose headlights for a few seconds. It happened in my hardtop with H4s on the outside and regular sealed halogen high beams. Lights went out when I had my high beams on. No more yellow headlights for me.

    That would not be fun to figure out when driving down the road in the dark.  lol  I'm glad I already had my lights on a relay prior to installing the H4's.
