Starter circuit dead when hot.
« on: July 06, 2011 - 04:54:09 PM »
Been having some problems.
The car starts fine when cold. As soon as its hot its not getting power to the starter. What I mean is I can jump the starter relay and get it fired up. It only does it when hot. Its like the neutral safey switch is on. Starter circuit is completely dead when you turn the key.

Is there something someone can think of that is effected with heat? Bad starter relay, neutral safety switch, or ignition switch.

Thanks,
Brian

would guess the relay.  you can eliminate the neutral switch by jumping the brown/yellow wire on the relay to ground which emulates what the neutral switch does...if it then starts, it is switch related....if not, you are back to the relay.

You can check the yellow wire on the relay for voltage when the key is turned to start....if no voltage is present, then it is ignition switch related.

So, if power to yellow and the ground side of the relay is grounded, but no start, then the starter relay

The starter relay is a cheap fix.   ;)
