PLASMA CUTTER DEAL!!!!!
« on: March 05, 2011 - 02:29:18 PM »
GUYS I am in the market for a plasma cutter and would like to know if anyone else might be interested.
There are a number of Chinese made cutters which have flooded the market available in the $350- $650 range and 40-60 amps.
I have been doing a bunch of research and have been in touch with a number of the reputable vendors that actually import, modify and warrant their own version of plasma cutter imported from China but modified with Toshiba Mosfets or use IGBN technology. Two of the best companies with the highest rated cutters are sold by LONGEVITY and EVERLAST. Both have excellent support and I have read nothing but positive reviews regarding their products on a number of the welding forums.
They offer special discounts to various weld forum members. I would like to use the power of our forum to offer cuda-challenger members the same discounts on their Plasma cutters and their other Mig, Tig Plasma combo units.

If there is interest from other members, lets hear it and get them onboard! Think how much easier it would be to do any kind of metal restoration work with a plasma cutter then traditional cutters. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK???

Yes, even Eastwood (one of our sponsors) has a cheap plasma cutter available, but none of them come with an integral compressor.
which can be a deal breaker for many. And if you price out a small compressor to use with the machine, then they aren't really a deal at all. This
is of course assuming that you do not have a compressor or don't want to tie up your larger compressor.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

I would think that anyone doing any kind of restoration at home would almost certainly have a compressor.

Just to give you guys an idea of this discount we could get...

THIS UNIT FOR $400 with 30 consumables!

OR this multi unit (tig, stick and plasma cutter in one) for $699

Actually we don't have to buy a specific number of units to get the discount but we at least need to be able to show the vendors that this forum has interest and need for plasma cutters and good potential for sales to it's members and in return we will be offered some really nice member discounts. I am sure this can be accomplished if we get at least 3 or 4 "yea I'm interested to buy"  members out there. Eastwood's unit is also Chinese but at roughly $200 more than these comparable units. Also Eastwood doesn't specify that they use Toshiba (Japanese mosfets) which are far superior to most of the units from China that use Chinese mosfets. Longevity and Everlast both have Toshiba internals which makes them far more reliable and they stand by their units. They also offer Pilot Arc starting on most of their units which is unheard of at these kind of prices! :ylsuper:

Not to be uptight or anything but I would be more interested in this if we had official confirmation from Ross or the Wizard on a new vendor.
Also would be nice to see a " Hi there " from a new vendor telling us about their products. Just my opinion, and it's usually wrong,   but hey.  :dunno:

Just buy Hobart from Norther Too if you're on a budget, that way you will never have problems byuing consumables.Doing small projects once in a while in your home garage might be OK with the cheap China stuff, but putting them to real use around the shop  may be a different story. :2cents: Good luck.

72Cudamaan YOU'RE right, they should be officially introduced before I ramble off that they have officially joined the board. I've been in touch with them trying to get them to come on board and they told me yesterday that they had signed up and agreed to offer us their units at member discount pricing.

I've been looking at plasma cutters for quite a while comparing units and prices. The common denominator between more expensive units like Hobart vs Longevity is that they use the same electronic innards which are not USA components by any means, but Japanese mosfets generally made by Toshiba along with a mix of various Chinese components. Hobart uses some coils made in USA and they are assembled in the USA but that's it.  They don't offer Pilot Arc starting and they don't offer the latest IGBT technology.

I am not a Longevity rep but I am one of those guys that do research anything I buy fairly extensively and try to get the most for my $$$ in quality, reliability and performance.
If you do your own research, you can't touch a Plasma unit with IGBT Technology, Pilot Arc Starting (great cutting on rusty or less than perfect metal surface) and given a 5 year warranty for the prices Longevity is willing to offer us along with generous consumable pricing. Hopefully they will be on board soon and you guys can ask them yourselves. I will be giving a review of my unit in the following weeks.

Are the consumables readily available anywhere or do I have to get them from one source? How does the warranty work? If it breaks were do I have to send it to? Local repair depots? :dunno:

Compatible consumables for a number of their units can be purchased at many weld supply sources so you are not limited to buying from Longevity. Longevity repairs all of their own welders and plasma cutters as most manufacturers do.
