need help/still haven't started my new engine

I recently posted that I didn't have oil getting to the top end of my 383.  newly rebuilt.  I took the advice you all gave me about getting the oil ports in the cam to line up and that did the trick, but I still don't have oil on my cam lobes. they are dry.(i have new cam and lifters)  What is the problem?  When I use the drill to turn the oil pump, my gauge shows about 50 PSI.    The assembly lube is no longer showing on  the cam lobes and I don't want to start the engine and ruin the cam.   please help

it is oiled by splash so you would not expect to see any oil on it by turning the pump

With the intake manifold off reapply cam lube.  Use the paste type that would come with a Lunati cam or equivalent. Paint it on with a small brush and cover as much of the circumference as possible.  Might even rotate the engine a turn if necessary.   The paste will stay on until the engine starts and the splash system starts working.  PK

I assume you coated the cam with a break in  lube , this is why you need to get it up to 1880 - 2000 RPM for 20 mins , the oil off the con rods & some running down off the heads is the only lube the cam gets so you need the rpm to provide adequate supply of oil for the cam

there was assembly lube on it when I got the engine back from shop, but it sat awhile before I put the intake on. Then because of other delays the engine sat even longer(covered with plastic) before I got it installed in the car.  I did crank the engine over some, back when I was trying to get the oil pressure to come up.  Is my only option to take the intake off?  Iwould rather not do that since it was pita in the first place.

If the engine was only turned a couple of times to get oil up top, it should be okay..if it was turned enuf to wipe the break in grease off the lobes, then I guess you can decide if it is worth risking wiping a lobe, scoring bearings, etc. rather than removing the intake.

This why I don't rotate an engine before starting it , I fire it up & get it up to speed , you can coat the rockers with assembly lube so they will be fine until the oil arrives . the cam is more important than the rockers so at this point pull the intake or take your chances
