Now good to mount the subframeconnectors?
« on: July 06, 2011 - 12:08:41 PM »
Is it safe to mount the subframeconnectors with my car standing like this? Not to build in any flex I mean, I have put it as straight as possible.

It looks like your suspension is disassembled and floor pans have been removed so this may not apply..Weld in frame connectors (like the ones I bought from US car tool) need to be supported on suspension before any welding or is done.  What I did was fit the frame connectors on a lift. Then with the car supported on jack stands under the front control arms and under the rear springs , i stitched welded the frame connectors in. Then I disassembled the car and finished welding it on the rotissary.

If your using the connectors like US car tool or like mine VX motorsports that are fitted to the floorpans, I'd hold off till the pans are in. It took a lot of massaging to get mine close enough to weld. I pressed them up from underneith with 2 floor jacks and had to mark and grind on the conector and thump on the pans a little. I'll bet I had each one in and out 5 X before I put the welder to them.
I don't suffer from insanity.
I enjoy every minute of it!

I would install the floor first completely as most frame connectors in kit form need a lot of triing to fit.  I think you were planning on making your own but I think the same theory should apply.  This will also ensure that you are building to something a little more stationary and set to apply the connectors to.

John's Cuda Shop has a good point of tacking the connectors in place on sprung weight from the suspension as it will put the body in good alignment.  I installed mine on the rottiserie but with the cars turned at a 90 degree angle on its side.  This puts no horizontal stress or sagging on the body because of the weight being supported from the side rather than from the ends.  I've done it before and all the measurements are spot on.  It seemed to work for me but I have a factory floor to go by and you don't so I would go by what John's Cuda Shop recommends.
