Challenger Lower Control Arms
« on: July 25, 2011 - 06:21:30 AM »
Hello all. I am new to mechanics so excuse my lack of knowledge. My dad and I are converting the front drum brakes to disc. We ordered a conversion kit from summit. Since we are going through the front end we figured it best to put in new a arms, and lower ball joints. Upon further inspection it looks like the lower control arms need replacing too. The problem is I cannot find replacement LCA'S anywhere on the websites I purchased my other parts. Also are the tie rods for the e bodies I i need to order specifically for the challenger or are they common with other cars and something I can get at AutoZone like the shocks ?

Welcome to Cuda-Challenger.Com

There are replacement LCA's, http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/tulocoar.html I'm not aware of true reproductions. You might get good used from a member here

Autozone should carry tie rod ends but you might consider upgrading to heavier 9/16  MOOG parts

You could look at CAP for new control arms, but some have questioned their quality.  Do a search before buying.  I'd suggest buying used parts, check Ebay and Moparts, shouldn't be too hard to find.

Smaller parts like tie rods can be picked up locally or try RockAuto.

Out of curiosity, what makes you think you need them? I had to slam my car into a curb at about 40mph to bend one of mine.

Good question why would you need lower control arms , if you do not have a front sway bar the brakets can be purchased & welded onto the arms you have , also there are plates that can be welded to the bottom to stiffen the arm  although for the cost I just weld in a strip of steel . Even the upper arms rarely need to be replaced unless the threads are stripped out for the ball joints

But if you do decide you need them:
