Electrical Voltages Needed
« on: August 02, 2011 - 02:09:27 PM »
I have a friend with a '66 Charger who would like to know what voltages he should be getting at the following terminals.  Any help would be appreciated.

1) Both sides of regulator.

2)  Both sides of ballast.

3)  Alternator field.

4)  Alternator "Batt" running and off position.

5)  At coil.

things work backwards on the 66
1- the regulator should have battery voltage at one side & variable on the other side out to the alt , in those years they regulated the power side not the ground side of the field
2 - 12 v into the ballast & approx 8 at the coil feed side
3 - Variable , same reading as the wire out of the regulator .
4 - 13v not running , 14.2 approx running
5 - coil should be battery v when cranking & drop to 8-9v Key on or running

Much appreciated, CP.  I think I owe you a steak diner (at the very least) after all the help you've given me.  Hope I can make good on that promise someday.  For now though, thanks again.
