Body offset
« on: July 26, 2011 - 11:59:38 AM »
After a complete body rebuild with all new panels floor, ect we are finally getting suspension back under the car to start test fitting everything. Checked out dimensions on all the suspension to see if everything lines up and it looks good. Wheel base is at exact 108" where is belongs and X dimension from wheel to wheel is with in 3/16" of each other, didn't think that was too bad. The only strage thing is that the entire body sits 1/2" further to the drives side, front and back. I would have to move it 1/4" to the passenger side to even it out. It could be done, I would have to move the spring pads on the axle over 1/4 and probably do some changing on the holes in the K member to get it to move over 1/4". Just wondering of this is a common thing and that is  how they were from the factory.

Sounds familiar...

I never measured the front, as the clearance on the tires didn't require it, but when I went to squeeze some bigger tires on the rear I realized the entire rear end was shifted approx. .5" towards the driver's side.

To the best of my knowledge, this is the way the car rolled off the assembly line in 1972.

Mine is the same. More room on the drivers side.

Ditto

Big tires fit better on the Passenger side but are a little close to the lip on the driver side
