i figured i'd buy one while i still can
« on: August 03, 2011 - 04:46:29 AM »
hey ya'll, my name is jordan, im 24 , from martinsburg west virginia and am an aircraft mechanic professionally. i've wrenched on jeeps and motorcycles since high school and it has always been my dream to own a plum crazy '70 or '71 challenger. Well, i found out that there was a local,  partially restored '71 (in plum crazy purple) and pulled the trigger. it has a rebuilt 340 under the hood with a holley 4 bbl 750 carb, full msd ignition. rear suspension is on air shocks which i hear can be a handling problem. the interior looks showroom. it also has the supposedly rare "stone shield hood trim." future plans are a rallye hood, spolier, and stripes. im into restoMods and am a fan of '70 grilles and might swap one in. i think most of my restoration efforts are going to go towards repairing paint bubbles and rechroming trim, the trunk rails also seem like they are candidates for replacement. photos coming soon

JSOLTIS-
Let me be the first to say WELCOME.
Hopefully you’ve had a chance to look around the site.  Lots of good, and Mopar smart folk here.

Your Chally sounds like you’ve got a got a great starting point to create a really cool car.  Especially starting with a factory plum crazy car; yes, I’m jealous, I love that purple.
Oh…. :useless:

Again, welcome

Ron

Thanks, again, Ron. I'm definitely going to need some smart Mopar folk around. and yes, for me, theres nothing better than a V8 that is purple from factory... It's a cocky  move for mopar, and I have to say I like their style

Jordan, welcome to the site. You're very near where my car is, for the moment at least, in Winchester. A buddy in Inwood kept my car in his garage for about 10 years. If I get up that way in the future I'd love to see your ride in person.

I actually grew up in Inwood; you could say its the 'ol stompin' grounds. Definitely if you swing through sometime just shoot me a  pm or an email.

Very sweet car! I'd personally keep the '71 grille, but that's a personal preference. The wide hood trim is fairly rare and very valuable.

thank you! im on the fence about the grille, im sure itll grow on me once im around it more. as for the wide trim, the crome on the hood piece is just flaking chrome off ( as well as my mirror), so im trying to get ahold of a chrome plater one of my buddies has done business with in Chickopee, MA.
