Mopar Magnum 360
« on: August 14, 2011 - 08:31:27 AM »
I have a Mopar Magum 360/380 HP crate motor vintage 2000 it is backed by a 4 speed overdrive Chrysler Auto transmission.  The motor is going into a customized 1955 Plymouth 2 door wagon with a Fatman front clip, 4 link rear suspension and airbags.  This is going to be a cruiser more than a Muscle car.

I read several posts about the various aftermarket EFI' for the Mopar.  The most popular seems to be the FAST EFI system.  It appears that FAST offers a single quad and dual quad setup.  Can anyone tell me the difference between the single and dual quad setup.  How much more gas mileage will I get with the single versus the dual system and what will be the change in Horsepower be between the single and dual setup.  Along the way I also saw a setup with what appeared to be a Triple Duece setup, how would this compare to the single and dual quad systems.

Finally or there any other options for EFI that are more cost effective?

Welcome
EFI is expensive , no way around it .
you can piece a system together , Eddy likely has an intake & rails , you can use quiet Walbro pumps . I used a SDS EFI computer http://www.sdsefi.com/, you can often save some $$ doing it this way . There is a number of throttle body asmeblie available from Accufab for one , single or dual 4 & 6 pack , you will get batter fuel milage with EFI over a carb once it is tuned correctly even with dual 4 bbls or 6 pack as only enough fuel to run correctly is injected & it is far more accurate than a carb . Expect to make more power as well , the engine with given parts will only make agiven amount of power but with more accurate fuel delivery the optimum power can be acheived

Thanks for the quick response.  I understand the cost of EFI is more expensive but I need to make a decision before I purchase a carburetor.  You feed back is helpful.

If you have to have it so that you reach in the door and start it, efi is hard to beat, like CP says; but for a quarter of the cost of that same efi, you can put a carb on it. North Americans have been doing ok with carbs for over a 100 yrs and the cost of all the gear required to get an efi engine to run in closed loop configuration, is going to run you any where from $2500 and way up. You'll probably have to buy a trans controller unless you pop for an efi setup with all the bells and whistles and it usually requires you to get to know a "tuner" nearly as closely as your wife. I'm not anti-efi, I just come from a Scottish ancestor and can't see the advantage of it over a carb for the money. Hoot mon!  :2cents:

Jimmynick, thanks for your feedback, I'm in a unique situation in that I'm buildng a custom wagon and I want the engine to perform well, get good gas mileage and  look a little different from a standard Mopar Magnum.  So I actually agree with you that I could probably get by with a good Carb but then all I have is another Morpar Magnum with a 4 barrel carb.   Again, thanks for your response
