Carpet Color

Years ago, I purchased a 70 Challenger Western Sport Special, its Dark Burnt Orange-FK5 with a white vinyl top. The PO removed the carpet so I have no idea what color it came with. Hopefuly someone here has a similar setup that can tell me what color to buy. Also who is making the best carpet and who as a member of this board sells it

That's a good question.  There was a large discussion on Moparts if a B-body should get burnt orange or black carpet.  I think the 4-speed cars usually came with black carpet and the automatics came with orange.  There were some exceptions shown though.

I don't know what it should have but it would look great with orange carpet.  If you want me to try and find the Moparts post I can.  There have been some pictures of burnt orange interiors posted in the last few months over there.  I can look for those too...just let me know.

There was also a guy over on Forebodiesonly that had a burnt orange Challenger.  I think he might be here too.  I can go take a look at his post over on the other site to see if the carpet was still in that car.

I bought my carpet from CODY on this site.  He is a Legendary dealer.  I believe the carpet is made by ACC.  Dave at Rosevillemoparts.com also sells carpet.  I set the rear section of carpet in the car the other day and it looks like it fits pretty good.  I'm going to let it sit out in the sun for awhile before installing it.  There is pleanty of extra material on the sides and in the back.  I havn't set the front section in yet to see if it goes far enough forward.

Thanks for the reply, I went image searchjing on Google last night and found both black and orange. I think I am going to go with the orange carpet. How long do you have to bake it in the sun to get the carpet to relax?

As soon as the carpet arrived at the house, I took it out of the box and laid it out flat in the basement.  It's been laying there for weeks.   The rear section fits really well, except for a couple tight corners where it's wrinkled up.  By putting in the sun for a few hours, you should be able to push out most of the wrinkles.  For the more stubborn ones, you can use a heat gun (very carefully) to warm the wrinkles and then press them out.

The front section of the carpet is going to need more work then the rear.  The heel pad has a pretty good crease in it from being stuffed in the box.   Hopefully most of it will come out in the sun.  I can smooth it out the rest of the way with a heat gun.

All the orange interiors I see at the above link have orange carpet.  Maybe the black carpet was just a B-body thing?
