Is there any new information on a steel T/A snorkel?
« on: September 07, 2012 - 03:19:39 AM »
Hi,
First off I'd like to say I know there have been posts about this before but I wanted to know if any new manufactures had amerged in the past couple of years or months since the last post.

Does anybody know where I can buy a reasonably priced Steel T/A hood snorkel (just the snorkel) which could then be welded onto a base '70 Challenger hood?

I know of various sites which sell fibre glass copies, which I found links to from the old posts.

For some reason fibre glass parts (aside from quality issues) aren't as satisfying as those made from steel. Its probably from having the almighty words 'Detroit Steel' as a religion since birth!

I also read about a guy in South America who makes for $1100 which seems a little steep.

Back to the main point, does anyone know where I can buy one?
Or any good Mopar metal workers who could accurately custom fabricate one?

I'm the guy who posted about the $1100 steel scoop, and from what I understand I'm the second person to get one. $1100 is steep, but the results are outstanding. I personally haven't heard of anyone other than Domingo doing this, but that doesn't mean they're not out there.

For interest sake, how do I get in contact with Domingo? Does he have a website?
Do you have any photos of the t/a snorkel that I can see?

I'll post some pics tonight, along with his email.

Domingo's e-mail is domingo426 at gmail dot com. Here's a handful of pics, one close-up, one raw sitting on my flat hood, one sitting on my flat hood with both in primer.

I spent a couple of years tracking this down (shouldn't have really been that hard, but I wasn't asking the right questions, of the right people, when I was looking). He had had an American distributor, or two actually, and when I first saw them I believe it was advertised at $1600.

Excellent photos, you were right, the metal snorkel looks extremely well made.
I'm not sure that I can assign that much money for aesthetic reasons when I could be spending it upon performance!

Hopefully some of the other members know of some lower costing vendors!

Glad to help, but I can't take credit for the shots. They were done by my body man.

The scoop really is remarkable. It's a complete replica of the original. I know what you mean about the money, but I wanted a TA hood, and I didn't want it in fiberglass, and at the time I had the money to spend   Ultimately, my guess is that this is a low demand item; like I said upstream, I'm apparently the second person to have one. Since high quality complete fiberglass hoods are available for about $700, I don't think too many people are going to want to go to steel for more money, plus having to bond or weld the scoop to a hood, so I don't think there are going to be competitors beating a path to create their own...but again, I might be wrong.

Some member, I think it may have been Cody, had posted in my other thread on this that he knew the other person who had one of these, and that he might be looking to sell it. If you can find that post and contact that member, you might be able to cut a deal.
