fuel gauge...help!
« on: September 15, 2002 - 12:31:45 AM »
OK on my duster (71').  i got a new sending unit, gas tank and the gauge reads empty when it's about a half a tank.

I CHECKED FOR GROUND AND IT WAS GOOD.

SO i thaught it was the resistor and the three prong "relay?"
so i changed them with 3 others all read close to the same.

what do you think.....

it don't look like it, all the other gauges work and the board don't have burn marks. i'll see if i can't find another gauge assy. and try it.

Unplug the wire from the sending unit and ground it. The guage should go past the full mark with the key in the ON position. If it doesn't I would bet it's the guage. When you pull the cluster loose find the wire from the sending unit and do the ground test again. If the guage dosn't go past full you have you have proven that it's not the wiring between the sending unit and the dash.
