Uuuuuugghhhh! Need to add another item to the check list
« on: August 19, 2011 - 10:27:54 AM »
I have a whole list of things I do before taking my car to any shop for repair.  Little things to make it easier for them and lessen the chance of problems.

Took car in to get the front-end aligned.  I look over and the guy is struggling near the dash.  I walk over and he had jammed the key in upside down and couldn't get it out.

3 different guys tugged and pulled, then finally took my advice to spray some graphite in to lubricate it.
Key was finally yanked out with not apparent damage.

So the checklist has another item:

#10) Leave key in ignition

That can be bad , once it gets hooked by the buzzer tab  key will often break off , the best way to remove it is to slide a small pin under the key to push the tab down & it will slide right back out .
I have no clue why but GM is virtually the only key designed to go in upside down but everyone tries to put Chrysler in upside down too , most house & business locks are the same as Mopar . lately though almost all Vehicle keys are reversable , either way up

They still have double-cut keys.  Like CP said, most keys these days are double cut.  Both of my Hondas are double-cut.

That's accually a good idea.  Care to share your list?  When my car goes in for an alignment, there's no way I'm leaving it unattended.  If they need to take the car for a test drive afterwards, I'm going with.

No kidding eh...if they are taking a test drive, I think I may be the one driving...they can ride along.

When my Challenger arrived here in Australia I went and got an extra set of keys cut for emergency, the idiot at the specialist lock smith place cut the ignition key on a trunk blank, I tried to tell him but he knew better. I demanded the manager who came out and as soon as I told him he was embarrassed as he knew the difference and then had to explain the difference his employee.   :villagers:
