The biggest thing that I noticed between driving a car with a 440 and one with a Hemi is when you feel the torque curve drop off with the 440 is when the Hemi wakes up! My 69 4 speed Hemi Super Bee was pretty close to stock but what a blast to drive!!  I also had a 70 Road Runner 440 6 pack with big valves and ported 915 heads. My Super Bee was faster than the Road Runner! Unfortunetly I sold the Super Bee last year and my brother now has my Road Runner.

I just hit 400 miles this week on the Hemi. It was time to see what she could do.

I adjusted the carbs and it is running better than before.
Still think there's more power to be found.

Anyway, So today a friend whose been bragging that his 289ci Pinto is going to wipe my a$$ calls me up and wants me to come over with my car. This is the same guy who I went to Alaska with last year.
His 2 sons are there as well.

I each gave them a ride.

I gave the Hemi all she had, hammering thru the gears on a desolate business area.

They were speechless!   :eek2:

It's unreal how the power keeps climbing up as the rpm's keep getting higher.

I've got a grin from ear to ear after today.  :bigshades:

A good running Hemi has an awesome topend charge, I remember Don White in the 70 advertising saying the Hemi turns on when the others turn off (or something like that) and it's true. At 100MPH a good running Hemi just keeps pulling until you run out of road or guts. My strokers are a lot more tractible down low but the 426's just start taking off about 4500RPM.

Sometimes mine can be a real PITA. But I still have lots to learn. Other times... you hit that power band a  warm nite with low humidity and she is a freakn rocket! I have gotten to a point I can pick the sound out of a crowd
70 Chally R/T Convertible- Yes she's really got a HEMI, no she's not a Charger!

Sheldon

That's what happened to me today.

I was going over 100mph and then it was time to ease up.
I started running out of road as well.

You're right! At about 4,000 RPM, it was really was coming on strong.

At a Mopar car show couple of weeks ago, there were about 50-60 cars there with all kinds of engine combinations.  About an hour into it, a '70 Challenger rolls in (later found out with an original Hemi).  There was no other sound even close to that car, give me chills!
