pictures with racing stripes
« on: August 30, 2011 - 09:28:08 AM »
does anyone have any pics of challengers or cudas painted to look like a more modern car.  i'm looking for body color bumpers, body color trim, maybe some racing stripes?  i've got a 73 challenger thats being painted viper blue and i'm thinking of adding white racing stripes to it.  i will be running a t/a hood and it will be painted body color.  i'm unsure of what to do about the bumpers.

pics would be great.

thanks

Jerry

I think for '73 Challengers, I would:

- paint (or put rubber bumpers on) the bumpers

- remove the rear quarter/trunk lid trim and fill the holes

- black out the grille

- forget white stripes.  Use the factory black strobe side stripes.

If you like the skunk stripes then put them on.  You're the only one that has to be happy with the decision.

If I were building a 73 to look more modern, this is what I'd do....

I'd move the bumpers in as close to the body as possible and I'd do away with the front/rear rubber filler pieces.  The anodised trim on the trunk/tail panel needs to stay since it completes the back of the car.  I'd paint them body color though.  I'd do away with the bumper guards and I'd fill the slotts in the rear valance.  I'd paint the front/rear bumpers body color.  On the back, I'd paint the tail panel black as well as the top part of the bumper...just like the 71 rubber bumper cars.  The front header panel would be left stock...painted body color.  The grill would be painted black just like the Rallye package cars.  The headlight rings and bezels would stay stainless/chrome.  The rest of the stainless trim would be brushed instead of being polished.  The DODGE letters on the hood would be removed as well as the Challenger emblems over the rear side markers.  It would be a lot of work but it would be cool to french the side markers so they didn't stick out.  It would probably just be easier to install the 70-71 style side markers.

the bumpers are being moved in and the side markers are being shaved.  also the bumperettes are being removed and all the holes and bolts on the bumpers are being shaved so they are smooth.  the antenna hole is also being moved to the rear quarter area.  the car is getting a T/A hood that is being painted body color.

I knew I'd seen that pic somewhere:

Tough car.

For an Aussie like me the look really reminds me of the 1980s, especially if you tint your windows.

Looks good but needs that 80;s split two tone tint with the jagged EKG heartbeat line red pinstripe splitting it.
