How would one know if their valves are floating?

You will get a misfire up the carb or out the exhaust , you can drop a valve if it floats which will usually distroy the shortblock mimum

Thanks CP.  What would the cause of valve float be?  I am just curious as  I tried to shift at about 6K the other day and had some popping.  I am not sure if it a lack of fuel?  (3/8" fuel line running, mechanical fuel pump)  Or if it is something more serious?  I would think that float would happen no matter what RPM though?  Is there anything that I can do to check for float?

the #1 reason for valve float is valve springs , it will generally happen at peak RPM
the popping could be just lack of fuel .

Car will feel like the rev limiter came on and will often tend to "blubber" with possible back firing thru the carb altho this may be somewhat more felt that heard..hence the term blubber.

Forgive the ignorance Straw, but I am not familiar with the term blubber.  Are you referring to fuel or float?

LOL

we were talking about valve float....I guess not the best word...car will kinda feel like it has lost power and is fighting to keep running\accelerating because the valves are  not following the cam lobes due to the springs having weakened and no longer controlling the valves at higher rpm.

But, the sound/feeling that I described as "blubber" is close to the feeling that you get when the car is flooding from excessive fuel like a leaky float-feels like that a bit when the valves float.  Blubber is a term that used to be used to describe some one trying to talk while they were crying.  Bad analogy on my part!

Does anyone know what the spring rate is that comes in the kit with Indy EZ heads?  I know they say they are good up to .600 lift, but wondering what the spring rate is.
