Hello from Iowa
« on: August 13, 2011 - 03:12:03 PM »
Hello Fellas, gals,  greetings from Iowa.  Smith ..... Jimmy Smith...my friends call me Jim, but I aint got no friends.  LOL

Good to be a part of a fun site.  Nothing like having a great time.

A friend from another board pointed out this site, in order to help me get more knowlegable in a 1:1.  When I was in high school my brother gave me his 74 challenger for a few years to help get me around.  Then he bought a 74 charger which he let me drive after high school.  both went to my dad because he owed my dad some money.  Dad sold them in the mid to late 90s dirt cheap to a guy that would come by every year for about a 8 years...  Oh well...didn't know he would sell, but he did.  Now that I'm older I wanted to maybe get a new or vintage challenger or cuda.  I'm leaning vintage, but I'm trying to learn the ropes as to what to get..  I would like as close to original as possible...  Ground up restored is good to...or body on restored.  As long as there are original parts thru-out, with minimal repop.  Original build sheet...tags etc.  I can spend in the 60s...but would prefer something in the 50s range.

With this, I'll paruse the site and try to find some info I'm looking for.  Seems like there is a lot out there...but from what I was told by my buddy, most have the prices to high for this economy.  Seems like they just put the cars out there hoping someone with a ton of cash will pounce on it.  I'm just trying to find the best buy I can for the money.  I want to be able to do shows with my wife... etc... etc..  sounds like a fun time.

Thanks again!

Jimbo

You probably want to shoot MeanGreen`cuda  a PM.  He is always seeking out cars which are deals/worth the money.

If you cruise the Members restoration section and look at a lot of the projects you should learn what the typical trouble spots are (example: rusted trunk floors) the difficult parts to get (example: Cuda grills) so when you do start looking at cars you'll know exactly what you're in for :)

There are also a lot of people here who are experts in fender tags, broadcast sheets, etc so you can verify the authenticity of any potential purchases.

Haven't totally ruled out a new challenger as well.  I had a SRT8 fully loaded quoted to me the other day.  I can actually do a trade in on it as well, being I won't have enough room in my garage for more than 3 cars.  So, I figured I'd trade in my 11' truck and get a used 10 or so year old truck and take a chunk off the challenger doing so.  Iowa winters are terrible...so never gonna leave a nice car outside.

Welcome CM from Iowa! At your price point, you'll find a decent car, you've just got to narrow the field a wee bit. Surf around and make up your mind. The hemi, convert or 71 'Cudas (and it could be all 3) are probably the most expensive. Enjoy!

Welcome to the site!  Good luck with your search of finding the perfect E-body to suit your needs!  Given your price range, you should be able to find something quite nice, whether it be an original Challenger or a new one. :2thumbs:

Thanks again for the nice welcome guys.  Still haven't found anything yet...still looking... for vintage.  Still debating new...  I went to the dodge dealership and they have a nice jeep there that I wouldn't mind keeping outside and it has only 20K miles...  then I'd get an additional 10K money to spend on another car...or use it for the new challenger...we'll see I guess...I don't know.
