in the mid 80s after cater went broke Mopar ran Q jet carbs for 2-3 years before going to EFI
Parts for tuning are hard to get for either carb , , I am sure either would work OK

There's nothing inherently wrong with either, they just need to be built and dialed in properly.  Sounds like you are keying on spread boar carbs probably because of the intake design, most any carb can be adapted. I have an Edelbrock Performer that has both bolt patterns that would bolt straight on.

I have never had any luck with either being a "Reliable" carb. The TQ carb's have that ever popular, POS Plastic (or some variation thereof) center body that likes to cause massive fuel leaks and NO starts, while the Q-Jet carb's tend to be worse than a Holley to tune and get "right/Reliable"...

My old truck came with the Q-jet and it still has it.  It sat for 6 months and I fired it up and drove it with no problem.  I have never had problems with either the T-Q or the Q-jet.  Since the Q-jet is being made again it may be easier to get parts.  I think the T-Q is  a little easier to rebuild.  Set up properly either carb should give better performance and maybe better mileage than the 600 Eddy.

I put a Quadrajet from an oldsmobile on my 318 powered 5th Ave and it work pretty well.  I like the smaller primaries so I went with that instead of a sqarebore Holley.

hey guys i know i am prolly wasting my time but is there much a diff bewteen the 2 barrel and 4 barrel as far as mileage??? i have the argument of ..... well the primaries on a 4 barrel are smaller and the two two barrel primaries and since your using primaries most fo the time  then it uses less gas......i am not expecting awesome mileage but with a heavy truck liek this and full time 4x4 .... every 1/1000000 of a mile/ gallon counts

My personal experience has been that the 4 bbl. will get the better gas mileage.  That is as long as you keep your foot out of it and do not open the rear barrels.  That is the concept and purpose behind the spread bore carb.  You cruise on the small primarys and have the added CFM and power potential when you open up the rear barrels.
