is my engine pinging???
« on: September 04, 2011 - 08:15:30 PM »
When I get on my 360, I can not get it rev over 4000 or so.

At wot the car just sort of falls over once i hits 4000.  It feels like it is running out of fuel.  When I let off on the pedal, the car picks back up.

I am concerned that this is engine ping...any thoughts.

Other than that the engine works well.

Doing what your engine is doing you would be hearing it .. at WOT it comes on and sounds like ball bearings rattling in a can.

That would be my first guess , a fuel restriction or lack of supply capability . pinging USUALLY happens at lower RPM & would not limit RPM . Pinging is similar to a tin can half full of marbles being shaken

Sounds like a lack of fuel.  I've never heard of valve float at 4000 rpm...

Do you have a stock ignition or MSD? If MSD check to see if 4000 chip is in it. The chip would set the top end RPM.

Thanks guys,

Sounds like he stock style fuel pump is not up to the task.

I am running a 3/8ths line from the tank to the pump.  5/16 from the pump to the carb.

Looks like I found another winter project.

Jason, it may be a silly question, but... how is your float level?
If I cant fix it, it's broke

I think that is great question.

the Primary is just under the sight hole.  The secondary is just a littel bit lower.

I have tried to bring them both up a little, but any more on the primary tends to mak the idle rich, and the secondary tends to leak out the bosters.
